I’m drawing figures in interiors, usually with a micro landscape
outside the window. I like combining still lifes, figures - some of which
are self-portraits - and landscapes within one drawing. Each drawing represents
an emotional state of being. Mostly, I’m after visual moments that
tell the story of certain illusory and somewhat dreamlike emotional states
or moods, ones that are hard to capture in words.I
also like exploring the tensions between intense, realistic detail and
overall impression, between foreground and background, and between a visual
past, present and future.Individual
narratives are suggested and implied, but are left open and ongoing, subject
to interpretation by the viewer and my process.Together,
these drawings also form an ongoing narrative.I
am the model for the figure in the drawings, however I don’t think
of them as self-portraiture. Instead, I use myself as a place to start.
The figure then takes on a life of her own. She often seems to be in a
self-imposed state of psychological or physical exile.The
work in general is about negotiating the space between the claustrophobic
and redemptive qualities of beauty, between seduction and innocence, danger
